Valentine’s Day is Coming – Give Some Love to Your Website !
It’s all so easy to get your website up and live in a flurry of excitement, and then leave it for a while to languish! Especially when getting caught up in a frenzy with the new social kids on the block.
With Valentine’s Day looming, why not give your website some real love and attention!
To help you down this road, the following are 5 key areas to review and help you show the love your website deserves!
TIP 1: Fresh website content
This is especially important if you are in the line of business offering date led promotions. Make sure you do not show out of date content on your site – it doesn’t look good, and gives the impression you don’t care enough to keep your site up to date.
Also if you have a blog, and haven’t blogged for a while – do it! Blog posts are all date led so it is very obvious when you haven’t been on the site for a while. And equally important, Google likes up to date and new content!
TIP 2: Broken links
Check your site for broken links – it can be incredibly frustrating for a visitor if they can’t find what they are looking for.
The easiest way to do this is to use an online tool. You can find one here: http://www.brokenlinkcheck.com/ Add in your website address in the box and click Find Broken Links. The tool will then go off and check all the links on your site. It will show you back those that are broken. Clicking on the ‘url’ link will take you to the page where the broken link is.
If you do have any broken links, and you have a content management system for your site (and know how to update and change your content), then you can probably fix the problems yourself. Otherwise you will need to ask your web developer.
Tip 3: Keywords
Have you taken a look recently at what words your potential visitors are using to search? And what words your site visitors are using to find your site?
Is there a match, or could you be doing better at optimising your website for the words that your potential customers are actually using to search?
Tip 4: Title tags
The title tag for each page is the line of text that appears at the top of your browser in the blue bar (or on the tab). This is also the link of text that Google often uses as the link to your site when a search is done.
Have a look at your title tags for each page
* Make sure they are unique on every page
* Make sure you are including your keywords for that page in the tag. Try and get the most important keyword at the beginning. But make sure the keywords all appear within the first 65-67 characters (including spaces) otherwise Google will truncate them.
* Don’t let the tags be too long. And at least get all your keywords into the first 65-67 characters (including spaces)
Tip 5: Social Media
Do you have a facebook page? Are you on Twitter? Do you encourage your site visitors to connect with you on these platforms? If not, then you are missing a potential trick.
Consider adding
* buttons to your site that will take your visitors over to facebook, twitter or elsewhere
* Facebook Like, Google +1, stumbleupon, or tweet this buttons. These encourage your site visitors to share your content with others.
Websites should be living, breathing things, constantly evolving and growing, especially if you want to capture more than your fair share of visitors searching for your services online. So give your website the love it deserves this Valentine's Day!
